Sooo…Are you feeling the big Harris Hawk energy?
Deep dives like this are so exciting, because as always, the more you see, the more you see.
I want to continue to honour this incredible wild cousin of ours, and I am going to switch to graphite. For me graphite feels like more of a ‘finishing’ medium. It could come from my loooong love affair with graphite, it could come from the freedom that sketching in coloured pencil provides, and it could just all be in my head and heart, and I am ok with that too.
What do I mean by a finishing medium? I can get very detailed with graphite. This is such a sensitive and subtle medium, and it allows me to capture depth and detail in a way that is different, or at least feels different to me, to paint or coloured pencil. Yeah, I can do loose sketches in graphite, but oh, I love finishing renderings in graphite.
Shall we spend the next couple of days rendering a Harris Hawk portrait?
How did that feel? What feels different for you with the graphite vs the coloured pencil? Do you have a preference, or is either graphite or sketching in coloured pencil new to you?
Remember that here we all about growing slow, deep roots.
Making art takes time. Learning to sit with the concept of taking time and being present is something we have to practise as well, just like we have to practise using our art making tools.
Truly, I am so proud of you for taking the time.
And that is what I can do for you in Hedgerow. Support and guide you to dare to dream, dare to start, dare to unfurl, dare to create.
Come show me your sketch in the community - let’s support and celebrate each other AND Harris Hawk! (or you are always welcome to just hit reply and land in my inbox)
Remember: It is not the supplies that make the magic, that dear one comes from you.
