Breathe in with me. And exhale.
How are you?
How is that tender, wild heart of yours?
Have you given yourself some sketching-self-care today?
Let’s explore how simple rituals can transform our sketchbook practice from something we do into a sacred act we embody. These rituals become anchors, helping us drop more quickly and deeply into our creative flow. They reaffirm your sanctuary, and the reverence you hold for your creative act of reciprocity.
🌿 Today's Reflection: Consider how wild beings prepare their spaces - a bird preening before flight, a cat washing before rest, a bear creating their den. These aren't just practical acts but rituals that help them transition from one state to another. We too can create rituals that help us transition into our creative space.
Your rituals might be as simple as taking three deep breaths before opening your sketchbook, or as elaborate as creating a complete ceremony around your practice. What matters is that they help you cross the threshold from doing to being, from rushing to presence.
🖋️ Gentle Invitation: Create a simple ritual to begin your practice today:
Arrange your tools with intention
Light a candle or make a special tea
Take three conscious breaths
Say a word of gratitude
Touch your heart before beginning
Remember: Rituals aren't about perfection - they're about creating consistent touchstones that support your practice. They’re about connection.

What you say about ritual is really important to me and my practice, as you know, since this practice is my spiritual practice as well. Having the space tidy and comfortable and all the tools ready and a nice cuppa tea. Giving thanks for the being with whom I will be connecting and spending time with is really important. This moved the reference from be a 'commodity' to be used or exploited for a drawing to being a portal for engagement with the soul of the being.
