Natalie, I love this post and am sharing it. Your drawings are so incredibly beautiful. I love them all, especially the elephant, giraffe, and ape. I also love your warm, inviting tone in this post.
Congratulations on 26 weeks of sketches! I notice the different colored drawings and was wondering, did you sketch these with colored pencils or pens?
As you know, I primarily work with oil paints, but I used to sketch. I am incredibly rusty at it, but I'm leaning toward doing sketches each week because you so inspire me. I will have to use reference photos.
Last October, I participated in Inktober, where I had to create one ink drawing a day related to a word given each day. It was a lot of fun.
Thank you so much for your very kind words Beth! I really appreciate you :) These are done in coloured pencil! I love sketching with coloured pencil because I tend to be a little less perfectionistic than when I use graphite. I have a magical little “wheel of colour fortune” that you can click and be guided to a particular colour flavour :) I keep these lessons to under an hour, and the goal is really to SEE more, to understand shape and form, and to celebrate the wild being we are studying. Curiosity and compassion are the cornerstones of my classes (and my life tbh).
Thanks for sharing the inspiration, Natalie, t's so beautiful to see you drawing every week. I haven't been sketching regularly, but I'm planning to do more of it over the next couple of months.
I love them all, but the Kookaburra is my favourite because I miss them and their laughing song in the mornings.
Oh I had a big kooka sitting in my mulberry for most of today! He comes pretty much every day, so I will be sure to say hello to him tomorrow for you xo
I can’t wait to get back in this wild rhythm. It’s such a wonderful practice, an escape and I’ve missed it so much. Thank you for creating this magical experience.
